One Year in Office: Oyibode Records Exceptional Achievements in Udu LG

The Chairman of Udu Local Government, Chief Vincent Oyibode, has accomplished remarkable feats in areas such as peacebuilding, security, and human capital development within his first year in office.
Chief Oyibode’s notable achievements were brought to light when a delegation of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, led by Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe.
During this visit, Oyibode stated that the initiatives undertaken in the council area align with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which aims to enhance development in the state.
The council chairman said that he utilized dialogue and community engagement to address longstanding leadership challenges in Okpaka, Opete, and Otor-Udu, effectively restoring harmony to those communities.
Among his infrastructure initiatives are the ongoing construction of a suitably designed Executive Chairman’s Office, complete with Executive Council chambers, and an ongoing Chairman residential quarters and an Ongoing Divisional Police Headquarters.
He also mentioned the Construction of a chapel within the council secretariat for prayers, Procurement of four official vehicles for council principal officers as well as Supply of modern computers to Councils’ departments , as well as clearing and documenting the council’s 19.5-acre land to prevent encroachment.
Regarding staff welfare, the Council chairman highlighted that Udu was the pioneering LGA in Delta to adopt the new minimum wage, settle Workers’ outstanding claims, and offer Christmas incentives to Council employees.
Oyibode shared his vision for enhancing education by constructing libraries in primary schools, utilizing compressed natural gas (CNG) for power supply, and grading of roads during the dry season.
He also announced plans to establish health centers in all ten wards, aimed at alleviating pressure on current facilities and increasing healthcare accessibility.
In sports, Oyibode took pride in Udu’s victory in the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Ighelli Football Cup and the upcoming launch of a football club designed to nurture local talent.
On environmental sanitation, he noted that residents are encouraged to come together to clear out drains and trim overgrown grass, with the understanding that failure to do so could lead to prosecution by the mobile court, adding that the initiative has helped to foster cleaner environment.
Oyibode appreciated the NUJ delegation for the visit, describing the media as a bridge between government and governed.
The chairman warmly encouraged investors to discover the possibilities in Udu, highlighting its tranquil atmosphere, dynamic community, and rich economic prospects.
Earlier, Comrade Oyowe stated that the one year assessment of LG projects in the State is aimed at promoting excellence, transparency and healthy competition among councils across Delta State.
The highlight of the visit was when the council chairman took the NUJ team on a guided tour of the various projects undertaken within one year of his administration in Udu.
