FG Places Embargo on Creation of New Tertiary Institutions

The federal executive council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu today, approved a seven-year ban on the creation of new federal tertiary educational institutions nationwide.
This embargo applies to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.
Shedding light on the reason behind this measure, Education Minister Tunji Alausa explained that the primary issue in Nigeria’s education system has shifted from merely gaining access to federal tertiary education. Instead, the focus now lies on resolving the problem of overlapping institutions, which has caused a marked decline in both infrastructure and skilled personnel.
