The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against crime in Ughelli and its environs, arresting suspected armed robbers, recovering stolen vehicles, arms and ammunition, and dismantling a drug cartel.

Speaking during a press briefing in Ughelli, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, remains committed to stamping out crime in the state.

“Residents of Ughelli and its environs can be assured that crime and corruption will be drastically reduced with the deployment of the new area command,” he assured.

Among the highlights of the operations were the arrest of a five-man armed robbery gang led by a notorious suspect known as “Big Man,” the recovery of stolen SUVs traced to a violent robbery in Sapele, and the arrest of three men who specialize in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint.

In a separate operation, police operatives also arrested a 52-year-old woman, identified as Egbule Isioma, described as a major dealer in illicit drugs, with a large quantity of codeine, tramadol, cannabis and other contraband recovered from her shop and residence in Afisere.

Edafe noted that investigations are ongoing and vowed that the police will not relent until all criminal networks in the area are dismantled. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to the command.
