In a bid to enhance effective healthcare service delivery, the Civil Society Organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has intensified advocacies and efforts in tackling critical issues confronting the State AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme (SASCP)
Speaking during a visit to the SAPC of SASCP Dr. Peter-Enyi Linda in Asaba, the State Capital, the State Program Officer of ACOMIN, Juliet Obiajulu said that the purpose of the visit was to remind SASCP of the important need of HIV/AIDS test kits.
She decried the unabated issue of shortage and unavailability of test kits in the various primary health facilities across the state, adding that the state government should take deliberate efforts to address the challenges facing the healthcare sector.
Obiajulu, who urged the state government to train health officers on the use of the triple test kit which Abbot is introducing to the state to ensure no false test result is recorded. She added that ACOMIN is irrevocably committed to collaborating with the SASCP through the Community Led Monitoring team of ACOMIN.
Responding, the SAPC Dr Peter-Enyi said that HIV and AIDS was rising in the state due to the prevailing rate of poverty in the society, stressing that there were some communities in the state where HIV and AIDS had the highest numbers of new cases.
Dr. Enyi disclosed that SASCP is working assiduously to unravel the issues of shortage of test kits in the state, noting that Delta State Agency for the control of AIDs (SACA) was in touch with the Delta State Government through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
