Delta Govt to Focus on Capital Projects in 2026 Budget
The Delta State Government has announced that capital projects, infrastructure expansion, and social welfare will be top priorities in its 2026 budget, estimated at ₦1.5 trillion.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during a press briefing held on yesterday ( 20/10/25) in Asaba.
According to him, Ministries are currently fine-tuning their submissions following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, ahead of the budget’s presentation to the State Executive Council.
Mr Charles Aniagwu also disclosed that, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will depart for Germany on Tuesday for a working visit to Julius Berger, the renowned construction company , as part of efforts to deepen technical collaboration and secure more favorable project terms.
“The purpose of this visit is to strengthen our ongoing partnership with Julius Berger. His Excellency is known for his negotiation skills, and this trip will help us secure better deals and concessions that will benefit the state,” he stated.
Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu stressed that the trip was not for leisure, but a strategic move to improve project delivery and cost efficiency.
Referencing the state’s previous international engagements, Aniagwu highlighted the outcomes of the Governor’s trip to China, which resulted in major infrastructure contracts such as the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction, Ughelli flyover on the Warri–Patani Expressway.
Aniagwu also announced there would soon be groundbreaking ceremonies for new projects worth billions of naira, including the Otovwodo Junction Flyover.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining project momentum, stating that Governor Oborevwori’s administration will not allow political timelines to slow the pace of governance.
