UPU HONOURS AMORI FOR ADVANCING URHOBO CAUSE WORLDWIDE
The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide has announced the conferment of its 2025 Presidential General Worldwide Award on the Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Chief Ighoyota Amori, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sustainable development and advancement of the Urhobo Nation.
In an official communication issued by the Central Planning Committee of UPU Worldwide for the 94th Urhobo National Day Celebration and 2025 Annual Congress, the organisation said the honour was approved by its President General Worldwide following the Senator’s “long-standing, sacrificial and impactful service” to the Urhobo ethnic nationality and humanity.
Reacting to the honour in a statement issued in Asaba on Thursday, his Public Relations Officer, Joelson Wilson, described the award as “a profound validation of decades of dedicated service to the Urhobo people.”
“This honour is a reflection of Senator Amori’s lifelong commitment to the empowerment and unity of the Urhobo Nation, and his unwavering support for the capacity development of Urhobo sons and daughters across all spheres of life,” Wilson stated.
“From governance to grassroots engagement, Senator Amori has consistently invested in people as his greatest legacy.”
According to the statement, the distinguished recognition underscores the Senator’s role in nurturing leadership, promoting education, supporting entrepreneurship and strengthening socio-political participation among Urhobos at home and in the diaspora.
“He believes that the true wealth of any nation is its people,” Wilson added.
“His interventions over the years have ensured that Urhobos are not just represented, but are excelling in governance, business, education, and professional careers across Nigeria and abroad.”
The PRO further noted that the Chief Adviser’s support for Urhobo sons and daughters cuts across borders, with sustained mentorship and assistance to professionals and students overseas.
“Wherever you find an Urhobo man or woman rising in excellence, one way or another, Senator Amori has built a ladder of opportunity,” he said.
“He carries the Urhobo identity with dignity, championing our values while preparing our people for global relevance.”
UPU Worldwide announced that the award will be formally presented at the 94th Urhobo Day Celebration and 2025 Annual Congress scheduled for December 5 to 7, 2025, at the Urhobo Cultural Centre, Uwiamuge, Agbarho, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Wilson called on Urhobos across the world to seize the opportunity of the annual gathering to celebrate a phenomenon “whose footprints are firmly etched on the sands of Urhobo history.”
“This is not just a celebration of an individual; it is a celebration of what is possible when leadership is anchored on service,” he concluded.
The statement said Senator Amori has expressed gratitude to UPU Worldwide and dedicated the award to the entire Urhobo Nation, reaffirming his commitment to remain “a steadfast builder of people and a defender of Urhobo progress for generations to come.”
