Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Abba was formally received Thursday evening in Abuja by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, and the APC National Vice Chairman (North East), Comrade Mustafa Salihu.

As part of his new political alignment, he also rebranded the political group he founded in 2022, changing its name from Atiku Haske Organisation to Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, signalling his commitment to the Tinubu re-election project.

Reacting to his son’s defection, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described the move as a personal decision and said it did not in any way affect his own political stance.

“The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal. In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect,” Atiku said.

He stressed that he does not impose his political views on his children or any Nigerian, adding that his major concern remains what he described as the poor governance record of the APC and the economic hardship facing the country.

“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope and progress,” the former Vice President declared.
