Ezewu Reaffirms Ministry’s Commitment In Promoting Innovation , Skill Acquisition

The Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief (Mrs ) Rose Ezewu, JP has reiterated her Ministry’s commitment to promoting programmes that would encourage creativity, innovation and skill acquisition at the foundation level of education.
Ezewu stated this in Asaba during the maiden edition of public primary school cooking competition .
She said that the main objective of the cooking competition was to develop creative abilities of the pupils and introduce innovation beyond academic activities and commended the initiative.
Represented by one of her aides, Mr. Mayor Ejiro, the Commissioner said that education in real sense goes beyond textbooks and examination, noting that the cooking competition would help in nurturing the mind , the hands and imagination of the child .
Ezewu, who stated that the cooking competition reflects holistic approach of learning, appreciated parents and guardians for their support as education thrives much better when combining school activities with home work.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Science Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor said that the programme was designed to identify learners that may not be perfect in cognitive which had been the major centre of attraction or concentration in Africa.
Igumbor explained that the selected participants would showcase their cooking talents, teamwork and curiosity in anticipation for excellence, adding that cooking was more than preparing meal but should be seen as a career.
She said that education was not all about the academic excellence, emphasizing that there was need to build on the vocational talents of the learners.
Igumbor clarified that out of the large number of learners in schools the best three from primary category were chosen out of their diligence and commitment just as she thanked the Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief (Mrs ) Rose Ezewu for making it possible .
At the end of the competition for primary school category, New Era Primary School, Okpanam came out first beating Ahabam and Uzoigwe Primary Schools, all in Asaba to second and third positions respectively.
