INEC Registers Two New Parties
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the registration of two additional political parties, increasing the total number of registered parties in Nigeria to 21.
INEC National Chairman, Prof. Joaish Amupitan, announced the development at the Commission’s first quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties. He named the newly registered parties as the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Prof. Amupitan explained that while the Democratic Leadership Alliance successfully met all constitutional and regulatory requirements for registration, the National Democratic Congress was registered in compliance with a judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja.
According to him, INEC will formally present certificates of registration to the two political parties, enabling them to operate fully within Nigeria’s democratic space.
