Ondo Landlady Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Tenant’s 3-Year-Old Son After Dispute

A 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Police said the incident followed a dispute between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat. Lateef, who is the complainant’s landlady, was alleged to have given the toddler a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30am. Shortly after consuming the substance, the child, Abdulrasheed, began vomiting and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he received prompt medical treatment.

Jimoh said police detectives launched a swift, intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspect. During the investigation, officers recovered the liquid substance believed to be poison.

The police spokesperson added that Lateef is currently in custody and has made useful statements, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
