The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has fixed dates for the 2027 general elections amid ongoing uncertainty over the  proposed amendments to the Electoral Act and agitations for real-time electronic transmission of election results.

INEC announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, unveiled the timetable at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, assuring stakeholders that preparations are already underway.

Although the commission has finalized its election timetable and schedule of activities, it warned that certain components may be adjusted depending on when the amended law is eventually enacted.

INEC added that it has already forwarded its timetable to lawmakers.
