Itsekiri coordinators of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited have strongly condemned calls by some Niger Delta leaders for the revocation of the company’s pipeline surveillance contract, describing the agitators as self-serving and unrepresentative of the region’s interests.

Speaking at a press briefing, the coordinators said the individuals behind the agitation lack the mandate and credibility to speak for the people, accusing them of attempting to create confusion and destabilize the peace currently enjoyed in the Niger Delta.

The group, however, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the surveillance contract, noting that the decision reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure while ensuring continuity and efficiency in operations.

They also threw their weight behind the leadership of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, describing him as a capable and dependable figure whose stewardship has significantly reduced oil theft and restored confidence in the sector.

According to the coordinators, the agitation for restructuring or decentralizing the contract is misplaced, stressing that the Tantita framework already accommodates all ethnic nationalities and host communities across the Niger Delta.

They explained that community representatives have been duly appointed as coordinators, while contracts have been awarded to local contractors to oversee operations within their areas, ensuring inclusivity, accountability, and grassroots participation.

The coordinators further credited Tantita’s operations with improving security across the region’s waterways, noting that incidents of kidnapping and unrest have been drastically curtailed. They added that environmental stability has also improved, with the protection of aquatic ecosystems leading to a gradual revival of marine life.

“As Itsekiris, we are adequately represented within the operational structure,” the statement said. “Our inclusion reflects fairness and recognition of the vital role our communities play in national development.”

They warned that calls for the cancellation or decentralization of the contract are deliberate attempts to undermine the progress recorded, alleging that many of those pushing such narratives were previously involved in illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism.

The coordinators emphasized that the pipeline surveillance contract is not a regional entitlement but a national responsibility awarded based on competence and performance.

They urged those opposed to the contract to pursue legitimate opportunities rather than attempt to discredit a system that is delivering tangible results.

Reaffirming their support for Tantita, the coordinators pledged continued commitment to the protection of Nigeria’s oil and gas assets, as well as the sustenance of peace and development in the Niger Delta.
