Delta to Roll Out Major Girl-Child Education Reforms in 2026 Through World Bank Funded AGILE Project
The Delta State Government has unveiled plans for major reforms in girl-child education, particularly at the secondary school level, with significant improvements set to begin in 2026.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl-Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, during the ministry’s 2026 fiscal year budget defence held yesterday in Asaba, the state capital.
Ms. Uduaghan announced that Delta State has recently been enrolled in the Adolescent Girls Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project— a World Bank–funded initiative aimed at improving access, retention, and learning outcomes for adolescent girls nationwide.
The Commissioner explained that the programme will considerably strengthen the state’s education system and is scheduled for official launch in the first quarter of 2026.
“The funding for AGILE is specifically targeted at girl-child education. Delta State has just been on boarded, and this will greatly boost the education system across the state. It will uplift children in secondary schools once it is launched early next year,” she said.
She added that the ministry’s top priority for the coming year is expanding grassroots access, ensuring that girls in rural communities across all 25 local government areas fully benefit from the initiative.
