Budgit Foundation Harps on Economic Diversification in Delta

Due to its heavy dependence on oil and gas revenues, Budgit Foundation has stressed the importance of economic diversification and fiscal sustainability in Delta State.
This message was conveyed during a focus group discussion with community leaders and civil society organizations held in Asaba on Monday, May 12th, 2025.
During the meeting, Alice Adedayo, a researcher from the Foundation, pointed out that Delta State offers various investment opportunities beyond oil and gas, including agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, among others.
Adedayo emphasized the importance of energy transition and highlighted the necessity for the state to move beyond oil production revenues to avoid falling behind.
In response to the presentation, Chief Odio Berkeley Asafia, one of the participants, expressed that achieving economic diversification would not be possible without reliable electricity.
Chief Asafia recommended that the Government prioritize resolving the power issues to support business growth within the State.
Engr. (Chief) Christopher Chukwurah advocated for the creation of an engineering research and development center in the State, aimed at fostering investments free from political influence.
Chief Chukwurah added that such center would ensure that monitoring and evaluation are conducted effectively for beneficial outcomes.
