Fostering Hopes Foundation, a fast-growing humanitarian organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable families and protecting children, is celebrating its first anniversary with a series of impact-driven events and community outreach programs across Delta State.

Established one year ago, Fostering Hopes Foundation was founded with the mission of supporting families at risk of separation due to circumstantial poverty.

The organization believes strongly that no child should suffer or be denied education and proper care due to family challenges. In just 12 months, the foundation has made tangible progress in transforming the lives of families and children, one household at a time.

Speaking during the one year anniversary press conference, Comrade (Deacon) Patrick Ochei, Director of Community Engagement and Development, highlighted the Foundation’s achievements so far.

“In the past year, we supported 12 vulnerable families with business grants of N250,000 each to help them start petty businesses. While the parents work towards stability, the children from these families are placed on full educational scholarships from nursery through secondary school,” he said.

According to him , a total of 40 children are currently benefiting from this educational support, and just two weeks ago, the Foundation spent close to N3 million to offset their first-term school fees in various private schools across the state.

Beyond family and educational support, Fostering Hopes Foundation has expanded its outreach into schools and marginalized communities. Notable among their programs is an intervention at Isheagu Grammar School, where the Foundation taught personal hygiene and distributed sanitary pads to girl students.

Also, 20 widows were trained in soap-making under the “Strength for Skills in Soap Making Empowerment” initiative. Each participant received a starter kit and seed funds to launch their businesses.

One of the highlights of the Foundation’s first year was the successful 60+ kilometer Walkathon from Agbor to Asaba. The event aimed to raise awareness on family disintegration, the importance of child protection, and the need for better implementation of the Child Rights Act (2003) and the Delta State Child Rights Law (2008).

“We believe family unity is the backbone of a progressive society. When families break apart due to poverty or misfortune, the children are often the worst affected—dropping out of school, becoming destitute, or falling into conflict with the law,” said Comrade Ochei.

HRM Obi Henry Afamefune Kikachukwu, Ph.D., the Obi of Ubulu-Uno, along with a representative of Chief (Dr) Newton Jibunoh, popularly known as the Desert Warrior and CEO of FADE Africa, joined Mrs. Tracy Ikolomi, the Delta State NOA Director, in paying a heartfelt tribute to the  Executive Director of Fostering Hopes Foundation Miss Nkechi Ukome.

They eulogized Miss Ukome’s vision, dedication, and compassion towards the success of the remarkable humanitarian endeavor.

To celebrate its first anniversary, the Foundation has organized an exciting lineup of events:

Friday, September 19:A visit to St. Theresa’s Maternity and Hospital in Issele-Uku, where gifts will be presented to newborns and their mothers.

Saturday, September 20:An outreach at Iyanga Market on Okpanam Road aimed at promoting family unity and distributing aprons to local traders.

Sunday, September 21:A thanksgiving service at Heroes Family Church on Okpanam Road, dedicated to expressing gratitude for divine guidance and the strides taken thus far.
