Excitement as Asagba Commissions Ultra -Modern Shops in Asaba , Praises Oshimili South Council Chairman’s Vision

It was a moment of jubilation and renewed hope on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, as His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, officially commissioned the Ultra -Modern Ogbeogonogo shopping Complex in Asaba.
The event, attended by a host of dignitaries including traditional chiefs, political stakeholders, council officials, and enthusiastic traders, marked a major milestone in the infrastructural transformation of Oshimili South Local Government Area under the leadership of Hon. (High Chief) Ezenyili Kelvin Obi (PHD).
Commissioning the project, the Asagba of Asaba praised the foresight and developmental drive of the Chairman, noting that the successful delivery of the shopping complex was a strong indicator of good governance at the grassroots level.
“This is a clear sign that local government authorities can deliver when given the right leadership,” the monarch declared. “The vision behind this project shows commitment to the economic well-being of our people. We commend the Chairman for his bold steps.”
The revered traditional ruler, visibly pleased with the standard of work, lauded the Council’s partnership with DADA Global Resources—an indigenous firm that executed the project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
He further urged the Council to take proactive steps by insuring the facility against potential disasters such as fire outbreaks, and called for a fair and inclusive allocation process that prioritizes indigenous Asaba traders.
He also used the occasion to challenge the Council to begin laying groundwork for the construction of an international market in Asaba that could position the city as a regional commercial hub.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South LGA, Hon. (High Chief) Ezenyili Kelvin Obi, described the new lockup shops as a response to the displacement and hardship experienced by traders following recurring fire outbreaks that ravaged the old market structure.
” It can be recalled that the old burnt market has been an historic market to the people of Asaba dating back to time immemorial. The dilapidated shabby nature of the market resulted in the market being gutted by fire twice and this caused hardship to traders and buyers who lost their valuables and resorted to open trading, This destruction necessitated the building of the new modern Ogbeogonogo market.”
“One key policy of this administration is the infrastructural development and construction of physical infrastructures to be compatible with cosmopolitan status of modern cities. This has prompted this administration to provide modern infrastructures that cuts across the entire Local Government Area of which this markets is one of its actualization.”
The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to aligning with the MORE Agenda of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, pledging more infrastructure projects to transform the economic landscape of the LGA.
He commended DADA Global Resources for delivering the project within schedule and to specification, adding that the collaboration demonstrates the effectiveness of strategic partnerships in driving local development.
The commissioning ceremony had cultural performances, expressions of gratitude from market leaders, and a guided tour of the shopping complex by the Asagba and other dignitaries.
