France Vows Stronger Support as Nigeria Battles Terror Attacks
France has thrown its weight behind Nigeria as the country grapples with escalating security crises, particularly the unrelenting wave of terrorist attacks in the northern region.
French President Emmanuel Macron revealed on Sunday that he held a conversation with President Bola Tinubu, during which he reaffirmed France’s commitment to stand with Nigeria in the face of worsening insecurity.
In a post on X, Macron said France would intensify its cooperation with Nigerian authorities and expand support for communities devastated by violence. He urged global partners to rise to the moment, warning that the world cannot afford to look away while terrorism destabilizes Africa’s largest nation.
“I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria. I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North,” Macron wrote.
“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator.”
