By Joelson Wilson
The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Distinguished Senator Chief Ighoyota Amori, PhD, JP, has emerged Outstanding Political Personality of the Year, a national recognition that draws renewed attention to Delta State’s governance direction and development record.
The honour was formally conferred on thursday, December 18, at Bon Hotel Transtell Residence, Asaba, following an earlier postponement of the event. The award recognises Senator Amori’s over four decades of consistent influence and leadership within Nigeria’s political space, particularly his stabilising role in Delta State.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of Edo Legacy Foundation Inc., Engr. Pedro Omo-Aghahowa, said Senator Amori was selected for the Honour because of his long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape and his stabilising role as Chief Adviser to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
“This honour is in recognition of his many years of active political engagement and his capacity to provide stability, guidance and direction within the Delta State Government,” Omo-Aghahowa said before the presentation.
Senator Amori, who was represented at the event by the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council, Hon. (Pst.) Christian Onogba, expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a renewed call to greater service.
“An appreciation such as this is not merely an award; it is an invitation to do more,” Amori said in his acceptance message. “In living what we consider a modest life of service, we often do not realise that our efforts are being observed. This recognition affirms that quiet, consistent contributions to society do not go unnoticed.”
He added that the award represents recognition of his modest service to humanity, rendered not in pursuit of accolades but out of a genuine commitment to the common good.
Reacting to the honour, Hon. Onogba described the award as timely and well-deserved, noting Senator Amori’s far-reaching influence on Delta politics since 1998.
“There is hardly any politician in Delta State since 1998 who has not been impacted one way or another by Senator Amori’s political activities,” Onogba said. “I am personally one of the many beneficiaries of his guidance and leadership.”
Observers say the recognition further reinforces Senator Amori’s standing as one of Delta State’s most influential political figures, while also drawing attention to the governance approach and development agenda being pursued by the Delta State Government.
