By Felix Evwihor
The youths of Adagbrassa-Elume Community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State have honoured 26 distinguished sons and daughters of the community for their outstanding contributions to community development and for bringing honour to the community through football.
The colourful award ceremony, held as part of the 2025 Adagbrassa-Elume Carnival, took place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Pemu Primary School, Adagbrassa-Elume. The event attracted several dignitaries, including the President of Elume District, Mr. Victor Ukueje, community leaders, elders, and youths.
Delivering the welcome address, the Chairman of the Youths in Diaspora, Comrade Felix Evwihor, commended the award recipients and community legends for their sacrificial and selfless services toward the growth and development of Adagbrassa-Elume, describing their achievements as worthy of emulation.
“Today is not just a celebration; it is a reminder of what unity, sacrifice, and commitment can achieve,” Evwihor said.
“To all our awardees and legends, your selection today is not by accident. It is in recognition of your selfless contributions to the growth and progress of our dear community.”
He further noted that the Youths in Diaspora have continued to build on the solid foundation laid by past leaders, adding that collective efforts have yielded tangible development projects across the community.
According to Evwihor, the youth body successfully renovated two abandoned water projects and connected them to electricity, played a major role in restoring power supply after the community transformer was vandalised, repaired damaged streetlights, and donated two portable speakers to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
Beyond infrastructural support, he said the youths extended humanitarian assistance to vulnerable members of the community by donating ₦50,000 each to two visually impaired persons, raising over ₦390,000 to support the medical treatment of a member who suffered severe burns from a domestic accident, and contributing over ₦120,000 to assist another member who later passed on.
While appreciating the award recipients for their past contributions, Evwihor appealed for continued support, noting that the journey of development was far from over. He disclosed plans by the youth body to acquire chairs for rentage, an initiative aimed at generating sustainable income and reducing the financial burden on members during community projects.
