Amori Hails Uvwie’s Triumph, Praises Okpe’s Grit At Sheriff Jnr Tournament
The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Distinguished Senator Ighoyota Amori, has congratulated Team Uvwie on their hard-fought victory at the 5th edition of the Sheriff Jnr Oborevwori Invitational Soccer Tournament, describing the final as a classic display of resilience, talent and sportsmanship.
In a statement issued by his Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joelson Wilson, Senator Amori commended Uvwie for their remarkable comeback and composure under pressure to clinch the title via penalties after regulation time ended in a 2–2 draw.
“Team Uvwie truly earned this victory. Coming back from two goals down to force a draw and eventually winning on penalties speaks volumes about their fighting spirit, discipline and belief. They are worthy champions of the 5th edition of this prestigious tournament,” Amori said.
The Chief Adviser also applauded Team Okpe for their gallant performance, noting that the penalty shootout loss (5–4) did not diminish the quality and determination they brought to the game.
“Team Okpe were exceptional. They fought bravely and matched Uvwie man-to-man in all departments of play. Watching both teams was a delight, and it clearly showed that the boundary between Uvwie and Okpe is far too thin to define. Football truly won,” he added.
Senator Amori described the thrilling encounter as a strong testament to the growing standard of grassroots football in Delta State, attributing the success of the tournament to the vision and consistency of the Sheriff Jnr Oborevwori Care Foundation.
“This tournament has continued to raise the bar. It is not just about competition, but about unity, youth engagement and talent discovery. As champions emerge today, another challenge awaits next year, and I am confident it will be even bigger and better,” he stated.
He congratulated Ughelli North for finishing third and lauded all participating teams for their sportsmanship, urging them to remain focused and consistent ahead of future editions.
Senator Amori further praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support for sports development and youth-focused initiatives across the state, noting that such platforms align with the MORE Agenda of inclusive growth and human capital development.
“Once again, congratulations to Team Uvwie as champions, and to Team Okpe as worthy runners-up. Delta football is alive, competitive and promising,” he concluded.
