Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council for demonstrating how focused grassroots leadership can translate into tangible development and improved livelihoods for the people.
The Governor gave the commendation yesterday ( 23/12/2025), during the Oshimili South Local Government Empowerment Programme in Asaba, where a total of ₦100 million was distributed to 1,000 beneficiaries under the EKO Empowerment Scheme in support of Governor Sheriff’s MORE Agenda.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori described the empowerment exercise as an annual tradition since the inception of the Hon. (Dr.) Kelvin Ezenyili-led administration, praising the council for its consistency, vision and commitment to improving livelihoods.
According to the Governor, effective local government administration remains a powerful catalyst for grassroots development, as it brings governance closer to the people and ensures that the dividends of democracy are felt in everyday lives.
He commended the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. (Dr.) Kelvin Ezenyili, for aligning the council’s programmes with the state government’s MORE Agenda, noting that the empowerment initiative is designed to build resilience, strengthen small businesses and reposition youths from job seekers to employers of labour.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Governor urged them to see the empowerment support as a seed capable of growing into something meaningful if properly nurtured, stressing the importance of discipline and prudent management .
He encouraged them to use the resources to expand their businesses, support their families and create employment opportunities within their communities.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s continued collaboration with local government councils to ensure that development reaches every community across the state.
Earlier, the Council Chairman, Hon. Ezenyili, said his administration remains committed to the upliftment of skills acquired by the youth and the promotion of small-scale businesses.
He noted that the program, especially during this festive period, is designed to help small-scale business owners needing N50,000.00 to purchase equipment or as much as N100,000.00 to restock their shops.
According to him, “Today marks another milestone of this administration as we witness a vital initiative of the EKO Empowerment program stemmed from His Excellency’s MORE Agenda, aimed at improving the skill acquisition, job creation and poverty alleviation of the youths in Oshimili South Local Government Area.”
“This event is a clear demonstration of this administrations unwavering commitment to the upliftment of skills acquired by the youths and promotion of small scale businesses in Oshimili South Local Government Council.”
“It is an accepted truism that no society can truly grow if the most productive segment of the population are unemployed. Financial Empowerment is therefore a foundational element for a secure and prosperous business as it provides a platform for one to establish small scale businesses, which if well managed, provides a sustainable livelihood and avenue to becoming financially independent.”
