Delta Takes Action to Protect Children from Measles- Rubella

In a move geared towards safeguarding children aged nine months to 15 years, Delta State Government has launched the Measles-Rubella Vaccine (MRV) Advocacy Rollout.
This initiative was officially inaugurated by Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the wife of the State Governor, at an event held yesterday, at Asaba.
During the launch of the MRV advocacy campaign in Asaba, Deaconess Oborevwori emphasized the campaign’s crucial role in enhancing both access to and acceptance of vaccinations, particularly in regions with low immunization coverage.
She noted that the effort aims to significantly reduce the incidence of measles, rubella, and associated health complications among children.
Observing the commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led administration in ensuring that childhood diseases and child mortality are reduced to the barest minimum , the First Lady stated that vaccines are free and effective.
Oborevwori urged stakeholders to take the lead in the immunisation initiative within their local government areas by supplying the necessary logistics and support for the program .
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, highlighted that measles and rubella are extremely contagious viral diseases spread through respiratory droplets.
The Commissioner for Health emphasized that measles can lead to severe complications, including pneumonia and even fatalities.
Expressing gratitude to both the state and federal governments for their commitment to the health and security of Deltans, Onojaeme said that the vaccination would significantly reduce the incidence and mortality associated with measles and rubella.
