CSACEFA Delta  Celebrates 25 Years of Championing Quality Education for All

The Civil Society Action Coalition for Education for All (CSACEFA), a national network of over 600 civil society organizations working to promote inclusive and quality education in Nigeria, has marked its 25th anniversary with renewed commitment to ensuring access to free, compulsory, and qualitative basic education for all Nigerians.

Formed in 2000 following the World Education Summit in Dakar, Senegal, CSACEFA has grown from an initial group of 40 non-governmental organizations to a robust coalition spread across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

 

The Coalition continues to mobilize, coordinate, and advocate for education reform, emphasizing civil society participation in policy formulation, implementation, and monitoring of educational initiatives.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the Executive Director of Patmon Community Development Center (PACODEC), Amb. Dcn Ifoghere Monday Onoharhigho, sensitized a group of learners and teachers in Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

His  highlighted the benefits of equitable access to quality education and the vital role of communities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Amb. Ifoghere, who is a former CSACEFA State Coordinator, South-South Zonal Coordinator, and Federal Facilitating Committee member, reiterated the Coalition’s core positions, which include:”Ensuring free, compulsory, and qualitative basic education for all and Adequate funding for education from national and international sources.

“We also encourage Government commitment to improving education quality and Addressing gender imbalance in education.

 Integrating HIV/AIDS impact mitigation into education programs; and Strengthening civil society participation in education decision-making at all levels.”

He also emphasized the need for continued collaboration between civil society organizations, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), legislators, and international development partners to sustain the progress made so far.

According to him, Since its inception, CSACEFA has actively participated in both national and international education policy advocacy, partnering with the African Network Campaign on Education for All (ANCEFA) and the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) through initiatives such as the Global Action Week (GAW).

The former State Coordinator noted that Delta State’s CSACEFA network, which began with five member organizations in 2006, now boasts over fifteen active members, reflecting the Coalition’s steady growth and influence across Nigeria.

“As CSACEFA marks 25 years of impactful advocacy, the Coalition continues to stand as a strong voice for inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for all Nigerians.” He added.
