Tension and heartbreak have gripped the  community of Maga in Kebbi State after bandits stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) late Sunday night, abducting 25 schoolgirls and killing the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku.

Residents say the attackers operated for several minutes without any resistance, leaving behind chaos, fear, and unanswered questions. Parents fled toward the school as gunshots rang out, only to discover that dozens of their daughters had been taken away into the darkness.

Malam Makuku was reportedly shot while trying to shield the girls from the armed men. His death has deepened the grief of a community already shaken by the mass abduction.

The Kebbi State Government confirmed the tragedy, with Governor Nasir Idris dispatching Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida to the scene. Security agencies have been ordered to launch an immediate and coordinated rescue mission.

Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, condemned the attack as “unacceptable,” urging calm while assuring families that the government is working urgently to locate and free the abducted girls. He extended condolences to the family of the late Vice Principal, praying for Allah’s mercy upon him.
