 “Then and Now”: St. Pius Xth Grammar School Old Boys Mark 65 Years of Talent, Excellence

The St. Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo Old Boys Association today, ( 20/12/2025) marked a historic milestone as it celebrated 65 years of academic excellence, legacy and service, bringing together dignitaries, alumni,  students of the school.

The celebration commenced with a solemn Mass of Thanksgiving, presided over by the Principal of the school, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Chuks Ogbolu, who expressed deep gratitude for the institution’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 1960.

 Rev. Fr. Ogbolu highlighted the school’s rich heritage, noting the outstanding achievements of its alumni across diverse fields nationally and internationally.

He commended the dedication of past principals and the pivotal role played by the Old Boys Association in the revitalization of the school.

He urged the  alumni to continue giving back while  drawing attention to the pressing needs of the School.

“Today, we gather not only to celebrate our past but to build a brighter future for St. Pius Xth Grammar School.

“Let us return to our great mother and support her growth.” He said.

In his address, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Patrick Ejidoh, described the anniversary as more than a reunion, calling it a living testament to the school’s enduring spirit and shared values.

Speaking on the theme, “Then and Now! A Red-Carpet Reunion!”, Ejidoh said the celebration reflected the strong bond among old boys and the timeless principles that have defined the institution.

He recalled the school’s humble beginnings in 1960, noting that its pioneer students laid a solid foundation that has since produced generations of achievers.

From modest classrooms to remarkable accomplishments across various sectors, Ejidoh said the school’s journey has been marked by perseverance, excellence and a unique sense of camaraderie.

He paid tribute to past and present teachers, mentors, parents and benefactors whose sacrifices shaped the institution, while applauding alumni who have distinguished themselves as leaders in government, industry, education and community development.

Ejidoh also encouraged the alumni to remain actively involved in mentoring younger students and supporting the school’s continued advancement.

“The strength of any association lies in its ability to adapt, mentor the next generation and remain a beacon of service,”

In his remarks, the National President of St. Pius Xth Grammar School Old Boys Association, Chief Zealiwe Edmund Ojeogwu, traced the school’s origins to the early 1950s, when the Onicha-Ugbo community envisioned an institution of learning for its people.

He explained that after extensive engagement with the Ministry of Education, official approval was granted in November 1959, leading to the admission of the first set of students in 1960.

According to him, the school has since grown into a beacon of education, molding countless lives under the leadership of committed principals and teachers.

Chief Ojeogwu expressed appreciation to all who have contributed to the school’s success and called for sustained support to secure its future.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Jerry Ossai, described the celebration as one that honours the past while preparing for the future.

He said St. Pius Xth Grammar School remains a home of talent and excellence, calling for the establishment of an endowment fund to ensure the school can meet its needs as they arise.

Highlights of the anniversary included the unveiling of a statue in honour of the school’s pioneering principal, Chief James Izah, the launch of a compendium, and the inauguration of the Board of Trustees of the Old Boys Association.
