Plateau Gov Quits PDP, Cites Search for Purposeful Leadership
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing to an end months of intense speculation over his political future amid deepening internal rifts within the opposition party.
In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area, the governor announced his immediate withdrawal from the party.
Mutfwang said his decision was informed by the need for purposeful leadership, clearer political direction, and more effective service delivery, which he believes can be better pursued on an alternative political platform.
However , the governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for offering him the platform that facilitated his election as governor in 2023.

The resignation comes weeks after the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed that Mutfwang had defected to the ruling party during a national caucus meeting in December 2025, an assertion the PDP swiftly dismissed at the time, citing the absence of any formal notification.
