Police Intercept Explosives   in Oyo, Arrest Truck Driver

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted materials suspected to be explosive devices in Saki, in the Oke Ogun area of the state.

The  was confirmed in a statement singed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, on Sunday.

According to the police, the items were discovered during a routine stop-and-search operation, following credible intelligence.

Ayanlade disclosed that a truck conveying the suspected explosive materials was intercepted in Saki, while the driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, upon being briefed on the incident, immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation.

Specialised operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were subsequently deployed to the scene to safely secure the items.

“The truck and the suspected explosive materials have been taken into police custody for safekeeping and forensic examination,” the statement said.

The police spokesman added that detailed forensic analysis has commenced to determine the exact nature of the materials and their intended use, while the arrested driver is currently cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the interception.
