Ezewu Underscores Importance Of Mathematics In Innovation, Solving World Problems

Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief (Mrs.) Rose Ezewu, JP has described mathematics as a potent instrument and a bedrock to many professions as well as a pathway to innovations, development solutions to real world problems.
Ezewu stated this in Asaba during 2025 Primary Five Pupils Mathematics competition and the Delta State Science competition/Exhibition Award ceremony
The event was organized by Mrs. Hope Igumbor led Department of Science Education of the Ministry.
She said that the importance of studying sciences in schools cannot be overemphasized, noting that the competition had been able to help the pupils showcase their curiosity, diligence, critical thinking and quantitative reasoning.
Ezewu stated that the initiative was one of the ways to encourage and improve the teaching and learning of science subjects in schools, adding that it was imperative to redirect their values to align with the demands of the society in a bid to reorder the behavior of the pupils.
While congratulating the winners , the Commissioner lauded the relentless efforts of teachers and parents who had contributed enormously in nurturing the young talents which according to her, is a testament to their performances in the competition.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Functioning Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu explained that the competition was open to pupils from both public and approved private primary schools across the 25 local government areas of the state.
She stated that during the preliminary stage , pupils from various LGAs demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and intellectual promise , recalling that the most outstanding candidates advanced to the zonal stage which was conducted in 7 centres where the best emerged to compete in the finals in Asaba.
Mrs. Iniovosa-Okakwu commended the Commissioner for her leadership and support throughout the talent identification process just as she also appreciated all education stakeholders, administrators , teachers ang parents as well as partners for their invaluable support and contributions.
