Omodon Tasks Students On Right Career Choice

The Principal of Women Affairs Secondary School, Asaba, Mrs. Dumkele Julie Omodon , has stressed the importance of adhering to the right career choice in the success of the children in life .

 

Mrs. Omodon, who stated this in Asaba during the Career Day Celebration of her school, said that the essence of organizing the event was to teach the students on the career choice and the way they want to go in life .

 

While saying that she brought professionals from different fields of endeavours to give the students career talks and practical knowledge of the duties of their professions such banking, law and engineering, Mrs. Omodon recalled that the school was established in September 22, 2023 .

 

Mrs. Omodon revealed that the school now has WAEC and NECO examination centres , noting that in 2024 , the school organized her first inter-house sports and athletics competition and that the school also held its cultural day celebration in 2025.

 

In his career talk on engineering, Engr. John Akatugba told the children that for them to become successful engineers, their must first and foremost know the importance of engineers and the challenges engineers face .

 

Akatugba said that engineers are very important in any society as they engage in designing, constructing and manufacturing of projects and things for the overall benefits of mankind.

 

He stated that anybody that wants to have a career choice in engineering must offer and perform well in subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics among others, just as he charged engineers to adhere strictly to the ethics and standards of engineering profession at all times.

 

Also speaking, Amb. Mrs. Stella Oduma of Women of Divine Purpose Initiative told the children to avoid peer pressure influence in their lives , reminding them that most people took to hard drugs to the extent that they became addicted and ruined their lives due to peer group influence.

 

She said that drug abuse often impact negatively on one’s life , stressing that once they are addicted to drugs they would not be able to achieve their career choice any longer.

 

There was also a career talk on banking where the resource person harped on the need for any student that wants to go into banking to carry themselves with respect and trust , saying that banking is a service oriented job that requires perseverance, diligence and prudence.

 

In an interview with journalists, the husband of the Principal of the school, Mr. Noel Omodon said that parents should allow their children to choose the career path by themselves.

 

He advised the students to embrace every useful information and tips by the various professionals in order for them to avoid mistakes in choosing the field they want to specialize in life .
