CHILD PORNOGRAPHY : 36-Year-Old Woman Arrested, Four Children Rescued in Onitsha
A 36-year-old woman, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, has been arrested by the police in Onitsha, Anambra State, over an alleged child pornography case.
The arrest followed intelligence gathered from a trending video, according to the Anambra State Police Command.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this on Friday, saying operatives moved in after obtaining information through open-source intelligence.
Ikenga said the operation resulted in the rescue of four children, aged two, three, six and nine years, respectively.
He added that sex toys and other items considered relevant to the investigation were also recovered during the operation.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigators probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other individuals may have been involved.
The husband of the suspect is also being interrogated by the police to establish whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, described the alleged incident as unacceptable, particularly because it involves the alleged exploitation and abuse of children.
The police commissioner has directed a thorough and professional investigation while ordering that the rescued children receive appropriate care and protection.
The Command said the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the children remain a priority, stressing that their identities and privacy would be protected throughout the investigation.
According to the police, relevant child-protection and support agencies will be engaged to provide the children with necessary care, counselling and other assistance required for their recovery.
The Command also commended vigilante operatives, bloggers and residents whose information reportedly assisted the investigation and led to the arrest.
The police said investigations are ongoing.
