2027: Delta APC Warns  Against Violence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has warned politicians and their supporters against violence, inflammatory statements and actions capable of threatening the peace of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party urged political actors to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law and channel grievances through lawful means rather than resorting to violence or inciting their supporters against opponents.

Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu, gave the warning on Monday in Asaba while unveiling members of the committee to journalists.

Aniagwu said the party was committed to a peaceful, issue-based campaign that would focus on governance, policies and the performance of its candidates rather than inflammatory rhetoric capable of creating tension.

He stressed that the state government would not tolerate violence, irrespective of the political affiliation or background of those involved.

“The governor has warned earlier that nobody is above the law. We will not tolerate violence, irrespective of the divide anybody belongs to,” he said.

The APC campaign spokesman cautioned political leaders and their supporters against making statements that could provoke attacks, trigger reprisals or encourage violence at polling units.

He urged anyone dissatisfied with the conduct of political actors to report their grievances to the appropriate authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.

“We are not in a jungle republic. If there is anybody carrying out an action you consider not to be in line with the electoral guidelines, that is why we have the security agencies. Report them and let the law take its course,” Aniagwu said.

He described calls for jungle justice as inimical to the peace and stability of Delta State, urging residents not to allow political disagreements to degenerate into violence.

Aniagwu also pledged that the APC would run an issue-based campaign centred on the policies, programmes and achievements of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

He said the party would present its performance record to the electorate and allow voters to assess its candidates based on their achievements and policy proposals.

“We will stay with the issues,” he said, adding that the committee would work with journalists to ensure that voters received accurate information about the candidates and their programmes.

According to him, the committee’s responsibilities would cover all APC candidates contesting elections into the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate, in addition to the president and the governor.

Aniagwu expressed confidence that the performance of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations would provide the party with a strong basis to seek re-election.

He also assured that the APC would not engage in electoral malpractice, insisting that the party would rely on its record in government to persuade voters.

The committee vice chairman is Mr Valentine Onojeguo, while Hon. Timi Tonye is the secretary. Other members are Olorogun Festus Ahon, Sir Kelly Okolugbo and Mr Jackson Ekwugum.
