Nigeria Govt Slash JAMB UTME, NECO Fee
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,President,Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reduction in the cost of forms for the National Examination Council’s Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (NECO SSCE),the Basic Education Certificate Examination and Joint Admissions Matriculation Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (JAMB UTME).

Speaking at the Federal Executive Council meeting on November 28 2018 in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said that the Exam Agencies are not meant to be revenue generating bodies but cover only costs and operating expenses.

Adamu attributed the decision to reduce the fees of these agencies to the sharp increase in remittances by JAMB, from less than N60m in 2010–2016 to N15 Billion in 2017/18.

The Education minister stated that the president Buhari directed the Ministry to look into the reduction following the “significant improvement in revenues being remitted to the Treasury by the Education Agencies.”

According to Adamu, the reduction will be implemented from January 2019 with the cost of JAMB UTME Form dropping from N5,000 to N3,500 while NECO reduced to N9850 from N11,350.
