INEC Organizes Town Hall Meeting with Women Groups, CSOs in Delta

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) has organized a one day town hall meeting with Women Groups and Gender Focused Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Strategic Engagement with Marginalized groups in Delta State.
Speaking at the meeting, held today, at Asaba, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Monday Udoh-Tom, said that the participation women in the upcoming general election is very important.
He explained that the Voting population comprises mostly women, adding that it is important to dialogue with them on ways to ensure their participation in the electoral processes.
While acknowledging the contributions of CSOs in the enlightenment of the masses he noted that there is need to do more in the area of mobilization.
According to him, the meeting hopes encourage women to vote as well as vie for elective position.
Advising women to support themselves, he observed that more women are needed in decision making positions in all areas.
He added that adequate provision has been made for security agencies to ensure that the election is free and acceptable.
On her part, the Public Relations Officer of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), in Delta State, Mrs Bridget Eboma, applauded INEC for assembling the women from different groups despite its busy schedule.
She noted that the NCWS has been carrying out enlightenment on the need for women to exercise their right to vote and be voted for.
While encouraging women not just to clap and sing for the men, She called on Government to give more recognition to women in governance.
High point of the event was the drafting of a communique on how to achieve a satisfactory 2023 general election.
