By Emeka Akataobi
Following the scarcity of the Naira notes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , has accused the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) of trying to take advantage of the pains in the minds of Nigerians to trigger some form of crises with a view to derailing the election.
Spokesperson of Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu made the disclosure during a press conference held at Asaba, yesterday.
Mr Aniagwu explained that the policy is not meant to punish Nigerians but to address issues of corruption ,vote buying as well as insecurity, adding that the spate of kidnapping for ransom has dropped while the naira also seems to have gained stability.
Aniagwu who is also the Delta State Commissioner of Information observed that the policy only needs fine-tuning saying “ APC is trying to kill it, particularly the presidential candidate of the APC and the leadership of the APC who do not believe that sovereignty belongs to the people is to kill the policy and killing the policy will enable release the stashed funds to enable them undermine the election.”
He implored Nigerians, especially Deltans, to be patient with the Federal government, stating that “ We agree with the president that the pains Nigerians are going through over the scarcity of the naira following the redesigning of our currency.
“We are appealing to Deltans and other Nigerians that to please not to fall prey to the antics of those who know they will lose this election and want to cause mayhem so that they undermine the election.
“I enjoin Nigerians not to destroy the banks such action will further worsen the untold hardship been experienced.
“We do hope that the sufferings Nigerians are going through would be mitigated by this action taking by President Mohammadu Buhari to fast track process of redistributing old two hundred naira notes so it mitigates the sufferings of Nigerians whenever they approach the ATM or the banking halls for the purpose of accessing their funds”.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for reinstating his commitment to conduct a very free, credible and transparent election, he said ‘’ he has continuously made it clear that he is determined to leave a legacy of where the vote of Nigerian will count and as a presidential council of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, we commend him for his commitment, we want the vote of Nigerians to count, and that is why we will continue to interface with Nigerians in real terms”.
