Niger junta names new prime minister

The coup leaders in Niger has named Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine as the country’s new prime minister on Monday in a statement read out on national television.
The Niger junta said on Tuesday also said that it cannot host a mission from the West African regional bloc ECOWAS for security reasons.

Meanwhile the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said that diplomacy is the ‘preferred way’ to resolve the crisis in Niger as coup leaders held talks with a US envoy.
