NLC Protest: FG withdraws Contempt of Court Proceedings

The contempt summons initiated by the Federal Government against the Nigeria Labour Congress for embarking on a nationwide protest despite the National Industrial Court’s restraining order has been withdrawn.
This was stated in a letter signed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, MRS. B.E. Jedy -Agba in reaction to the Unions’ resolution to proceed on another Strike if any labour leader is summoned to court.
Explaining that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention and the labour unions decision to call-off their industrial action made the Ministry to halt the court proceedings, it noted that events have overtaken NLC’s communique on the court Proceedings.
The Federal Ministry of Justice had filed form 48 of contempt proceedings on NLC after the August 2, 2023 protest over the removal of fuel subsidy.
NLC thereafter threatened to embark on another nationwide comprehensive strike beginning Monday 14th , August, 2023 if the Court summons are not withdrawn.
