Delta Government Cracks Down on Land Grabbers, Threatens Prosecution

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has issued a stern warning to land grabbers in the state to vacate government lands or face prosecution.
Speaking at a press conference in Asaba, Aniagwu emphasized that the government will not tolerate encroachment on its lands, describing the activities of land grabbers as “the height of criminality”.
According to Aniagwu, the state government has inherited lands from the old Bendel State and has also acquired new ones, which will be protected for the benefit of the state. He cited a specific case in Sapele, where an individual has been grabbing government lands and even destroyed a veterinary building.
Aniagwu warned that the government will not only demolish structures built illegally on government lands but will also require the builders to pay for the demolition costs, including diesel, personnel, and equipment. This move is aimed at deterring land grabbers and protecting the state’s assets.
The commissioner’s warning is not an isolated incident, as the Delta State Government has been actively working to recover government lands from grabbers.
