The Delta State Executive Council has approved a series of major health sector projects aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and strengthening medical services across the state.

The approvals were granted during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. They include the procurement of medical equipment for newly completed hospitals, the establishment of specialised medical units, and the upgrade of critical health facilities.

Speaking with journalists at the Government House Press Centre, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, said the decisions reflect the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and enhancing the state’s health system.

Dr. Onojaeme disclosed that the General Hospital in Kwale, whose construction contract was awarded in 2011, has now been completed. He said the Executive Council approved the procurement of modern medical equipment to enable the hospital to commence operations as soon as possible.

According to him, the hospital will be opened to the public immediately after the installation of the equipment is completed.

The commissioner added that the state government is also intensifying efforts to improve maternal and child healthcare through sustained investments in health infrastructure, medical equipment, and specialised healthcare services, with the overall goal of ensuring better health outcomes for residents across Delta State.
