Delta Public Servants Group Calls for Improved Workers’ Welfare
A Pressure group comprising Federal and State public servants of Delta State origin, operating under the aegis of the Concerned Public Servants for Good Governance Forum (CPSGGF), has called for improved welfare, better working conditions for public servants in the state.
The call was made at the group’s inaugural meeting held today in Asaba.
Speaking at the meeting, the Convener of the group, Comrade Promise Chinedu Obi, said public servants should be regarded as the “26th Local Government” of Delta State because of their numerical strength and strategic role in the administration and development of the state.
Obi stressed the need for the government to place greater priority on the welfare of public servants, noting that improved working conditions would enhance productivity and efficiency in the public service.
He specifically appealed to the state government to consider providing official vehicles for public servants at the level of Directors to ease their mobility and enable them to carry out their responsibilities more effectively.
According to him, adequate welfare packages for senior public servants would ultimately translate into greater productivity and improved service delivery.
The CPSGGF Convener, however, commended the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, provision of funds for pension payments and the approval of the 13th-month salary for public servants.
He also appreciated the governor for the support extended to Permanent Secretaries and appealed for similar consideration to be given to Directors in the state public service.
Obi maintained that the group is non-political, self-sponsored and driven solely by its concern for the welfare and general well-being of public servants in Delta State.
He said the forum would continue to advocate policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening the public service and promoting good governance in the state.
