Okowa Redeems, Doubles Pledge To Super Eagles

Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has doubled and redeemed his earlier pledge of $25, 000 dollars per goal scored by the Super Eagles in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against the Bafana Bafana football club of South Africa.
Speaking at the state banquet held in honour of the Super Eagles at Asaba, Governor Okowa revealed that his division to make double his earlier pledge was informed by the team’s outstanding performance in South Africa.
The football encounter which took place in Johannesburg ended 1-1 with the Super Eagles qualifying for the championship billed to hold next year in Cameroon.
Also, Governor Okowa disclosed that the camping of the Super Eagles in Asaba was a blessing in several ways.
“… you enabled us to witness the first international flight from the Asaba International Airport. I promised to reward them ( Super Eagles) with the sum of $25, 000 for every goal scored which motivated the Super Eagles to qualify for the continental championship” Okowa said.
President of NFF, Mr Pinnick Amaju had in his speech, thanked Governor Okowa for his support to the Super Eagles, stating that the team had qualified for the 2019 edition of AFCON.
The cash was later presented to the Captain of the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa who on behalf of members of the Super Eagles thanked Governor Okowa and the people of Delta State for their support.
The Cranes of Uganda that earlier held the Super Eagles to a goalless draw at the Stephen Keshi Stadium also attended the dinner.
