Delta State Police Command has promised to respond swiftly to distress calls following concerns of possible increase in crime that characterizes  yuletide.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Delta State Command, Mr Michael Ogbizi, made the promise during a familiarization visit of the leadership of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu.

The commissioner stated that the police were perfecting measures and strategies to respond swiftly to distress calls to nip crime in the bud, just as he assured that surveillance activities were ongoing to prevent criminal activities.

CP Ogbizi also clarified on the seeming resurgence of roadblocks in the State, saying that they were nipping points meant for routine interrogation of motorists to reduce criminal activities.

However, he pledged a robust relationship with members of the press in Delta State.

The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu informed CP Ogbizi that the visit was traditional for critical stakeholders like the CP and that he came at a time when crime rate was soaring in the state but acknowledged it had dwindled, since the CP’s deployment to the State.

Comrade Ikeogwu noted that the police were closer to the people than other security agencies and called on the CP to charge his men to be friendlier to the people.

He told the CP that members of the NUJ are poised towards fostering mutually beneficial partnership with the command for the overall good of the society.
