NLC Holds Rally Tomorrow Over Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will tomorrow embark of a sensitization rally across the federation to further put pressure on the federal government to transmit the bill on the minimum wage to the National Assembly.

The Chairman of the NLC, Delta State Council, Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, in an emergency State Executive Council (SEC) meeting today, said contrary to misconstrued information that labour would embark on an indefinite strike action from Tuesday January 8, 2019, a memo received from the NLC headquarters in Abuja actually indicated that there would only be rally.

Comrade Jemirieyigbe explained that the rally was meant to sensitized government on the need to expedite action on the enactment of the minimum wage into law.

According to the NLC chairman, the rally would involved walking on major roads in the state capital, Asaba and culminates at Government House, where a letter on the rally would be delivered to the state governor.

He emphasized that the rally would involved only workers assigned to participate while others should go about their normal official routine, saying that based on agreement reached with government, labour would only embark on an indefinite strike action if the government failed to transmit the expected bill to the NASS as at January 31, 2019.
