There was a bloodbath in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area as five persons, four young men and a female teenager were shot dead in their houses located in the Udumu-Orugbo area by Jakpa Junction of the town in the early hours of yesterday, February 11, 2019.
Police were seen removing the corpses of the victims when our correspondent visited the scene of crime and attempt to confirm the incident from the police at as the time of filling this report, met brick walls.
However in a press briefing on the incident at the Uvwie Local Government Council Secretariat, the Chairman of Council, Hon Ramson Tega Onoyake told journalists that some arrests were made by the police over the incident.
He alleged that the leader (names withheld) of the hoodlums behind the incident was on the run, alleging further that the said leader of the hoodlums had killed a mother and child in time past.
Onoyake maintained that the recent youth restiveness in the area had nothing to with politics as he noted that since the restiveness started, no politician had been attacked, saying that the hoodlums were rather trying to get undue attention from the politicians.
He however expressed confidence that with the presence of government security agents at security flash points, there would be no youths restiveness in the area again and urged law abiding residents to go about their lawful duties without fear of molestation or harassment.
While he expressed sympathy with the families of the victims, Onoyake called for the arrest of the alleged mastermind of the killings, saying, “The law must take its course.”
