Tension Rock Uduaghan’s Senatorial Ambition
Former Governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan,
There is pandemonium in Delta state over an alleged nullification of the primary election that produced the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, by a high court in Abuja as the Delta South Senatorial District candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The pre-election litigation was filed by an APC chietain, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Terry Okorodudu (rtd.)
The judgement also ordered the party to conduct fresh primary election that will be monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for senatorial district.
Okorodudu, an aspirant for the senatorial district under the platform of APC, claimed in the suit that ye was unlawfully excluded from the election, describng the process as “totally shameful, criminal and an abuse of democratic culture.”
But Uduaghan through his Media Assistnt, Monoyo Edon, said he remains the authentic candidate for the senatorial election on Saturday, this week.
“The court had no time ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the name of Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan from the list of candidates in the election”, Uduaghan said.
While the former Governor said he and his party were not aware of the case nor was he a party to the case and was never joined in the alleged suit, Okorodudu said the process preceding the supposed primary election that produced Uduaghan was tortuous.
He told the court that the decision to clear only Uduaghan for the election and made him a sole candidate, leading to an affirmation and not election, was outrightly fraudulent and a miscarriage of democratic process.
“There was no accreditation or election just as there was no indication that there was a decision by the party to push only one candidate forward from among all the other aspirants that had obtained the form and fulfilled all the requirements of the electoral process”, Okorodudu said.
He said the decision to exclude him as a retired Air Vice Marshal must have been premeditated hence the decision to obtain a judgement order that was served on the electoral umpire.
“Pursuant to our earlier release, wherein Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, APC Senatorial Candidate in the forthcoming rescheduled general election alarmed that he nor his party were not notified of any judgement whatsoever, a court of competent jurisdiction has saved what would have been a miscarriage of justice.
“The request by the claimant (AVM Terry Okorodudu) to remove Dr. Uduaghan’s name from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list of candidate has been denied.”
