Delta State Government has embarked on promoting and promulgating family planning services through the Ministry of Health, as some media practitioners were recently trained to undertake the role of projecting the effects of family planning in the state.
The Chief Nursing Officer, Umuagu Primary Health Centre, Asaba Mrs Gloria Anene, has revealed that Family Planning Services were given free of charge across the Primary Health Centres in Delta State.
She added that Family Planning enables people to have children by choice and not by chance while pointing out that people could determine the number of children they intend to have through embracing Family Planning.
Mrs Anene disclosed also that “there are various types of contraceptives available, but are dependent on the choice of patients after due explanations of the effects, terms and conditions of them”
While speaking, Mrs Juliet Opuofeni, Family Planning Service Provider, Primary Health Centre Cable Point, Asaba, stated that children are becoming sexually active in the recent times, therefore they should also be encouraged to assess Family Planning services in order to prevent contracting sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies that could jeopardize their future dreams.
Speaking with a Family Planning service provider at Akwukwu-Igbo Primary Health Centre, who spoke anonymously, saying that more women recently adopt Family Planning Services than previously in this centre, pointing out that it was due to the awareness being created through the Family Planning Advocacy and Publicity.
She also gave an instance of a woman who has eight children with her husband, whose husband declined embracing family planning but the woman secretly came for family planning service and today she is living happily with her husband.
