St. Micheal College Wins 2020 Seplat PEARLs Quiz Competition

St. Michael College Benin, Edo State, has gotten the grand prize of N7milliion as winner of the 9th edition of the Seplat Preparing Exceptional and Responsible Leaders (PEARLs) quiz competition.

The annual event of the Seplat PEARLs quiz competition which held in Edo State on 19/11/2020, was organized by Seplat Petroleum Development PLC in collaboration with the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company ( NPDC).

While Mc Neil Academy, Sapele, Delta State took the second position with cash prize of N3 million, Glory Land Secondary School Igarra, Edo State, secured the third position with cash prize of N1 million.
As the 3rd runner up, St. John Academy, Oleh, Delta State, got N1million.

Also, three students from each of the schools that participated in the competition received different cash prizes. Each student from the first category got N100,000, second position received 75,000 respectively while students from the third position and third runners up received N50,000 each.

Additionally, teachers who accompanied the students to the occasion were given laptops.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Seplat explained that occasion seeks to improve the educational Standard of their host State of Edo and Delta as well as mold the character of the students.

The CEO, who was represented by the General Manager External Affairs and Communication, Dr. Chioma Uwanchukwu, said the competition started six months ago with 574 schools selected from both States but four schools made it to the last round.

She observed that graduating students in Secondary Schools are targeted in preparation for their West African Examination Council (WAEC), adding that the competition enhances their academic performance of students.

According to Dr Chioma, 45,140 students have been impacted since the program started in 2012.
She added that cash prizes won by schools will be used to build infrastructures to boost students learning.

Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun however commended Seplat’s initiatives towards the betterment of their host States while calling on other companies to take cue from Seplat’s activities.

Also, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education, Mrs Stella Maris Imasuen who represented the Secretary to Edo State Government, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, applauded Seplat for their commitment to the competition aimed at rewarding academic excellence.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of trophies as well as large cheques to the winners of the quiz competition.

The Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ochor Ochor, was also present at the event.
