Mulade Urges Government to be Proactive on 2023 worse Flooding Prediction

The National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice ( CEPEJ) Comrade Sheriff Mulade has urged the Federal and State Government to be proactive on the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) prediction worse flooding situation this year.

Comrade Mulade stating this during a sensitization Workshop held in commemoration of the 2023 world environment day organized by Delta State Coalition of Civil Society organizations in partnership with the State Ministry of Environment.

Identifying the indiscriminate dumping of waste as a challenge in Nigeria, he expressed fear at the inadequate preparation of government on this year’s prediction by NIMET .

He noted that “people in authority have not been able to seize this opportunity to address some this fundamental issues. “

His words “If we don’t address it carefully it will amount to a huge experience where most of our victim especially the local people ,

“From NIMET prediction, about 21 States will be greatly affected by this flood. And if 21 state are to be greatly affected, you know the number of victim that will emanate from that.”

He however appealed for the provision of IDP camps to prospective flood victims, maintaining that residents of flood prone communities should evacuated before the flooding begins.

“Right now, we expect that some of the government agencies, especially in like the ministry of environment to begin to prepare. To evacuates those in flood prone areas too high land.

“We are appealing to government to be more proactive rather than being reactive to the issue flooding” he said.
