Three FRSC Officers Slain in Fresh Bandit Attack in Kebbi
Three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been killed in a bandit attack along the Tsamiya–Illo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims were identified as DCRMA Umar Aliyu, SRMA Ezra Manu Gona, and RMA I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir.
According to Daily Trust, the officers were carrying out official duties when they were ambushed by armed bandits operating on motorcycles.
A resident of the area said the officers attempted to flee into the bush after spotting the attackers, but were pursued and killed before they could escape.
“The bandits chased them on motorcycles and killed them before they could find safety in the bush,” a source said.
The attackers, reportedly numbering more than 20, fled into the surrounding forest immediately after carrying out the attack.
Residents said security personnel stationed in the Tsamiya axis have repeatedly come under attack from bandits and members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
“This is about the fifth time security operatives have been targeted and killed in this area,” another source disclosed.
The latest incident adds to a growing list of attacks in the Tsamiya/Maje axis of Bagudo LGA, where more than 10 officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration Service, and the Police have reportedly been killed within the past year.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kebbi State Command of the FRSC had not issued an official statement on the incident, while efforts to reach the agency’s Public Relations Officer proved unsuccessful.
In response to the worsening security situation, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, recently convened an emergency security meeting at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi to strengthen coordinated efforts against insecurity.
The governor expressed concern over the renewed attacks and vowed to take decisive action against individuals aiding criminal elements.
“My administration will not tolerate anyone serving as an informant to criminals. Anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law,” he said.
