Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, from bandits who abducted her alongside her husband several weeks ago.

The rescue followed intensified search-and-rescue operations by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, who sustained pressure on the criminal elements across their areas of operation. During one of the offensives, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.

Military authorities disclosed that as the troops closed in on the kidnappers, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing under the overwhelming pressure of the advancing forces.

Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated from the scene and taken to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring her full recovery and providing the necessary support to her family during this period.

Speaking on the development, the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, commended the troops for their courage and professionalism during the operation.

He said: “The successful rescue of Mrs. Amina Abubakar demonstrates the resolve of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to protect citizens and relentlessly pursue criminal elements threatening the peace and security of our nation. We remain committed to ensuring her full recovery and bringing all those responsible for this heinous act to justice.”

Major General Uba further assured Nigerians that troops would sustain ongoing operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups across the country.

Meanwhile, troops have continued operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist and criminal threats across Katsina State and other parts of the country.
