Horror in Ondo Community as Assailants Behead 18-Month-Old Toddler

A tragic incident has shaken residents of Agoti Settlement in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State following the gruesome killing of an 18-month-old baby girl by suspected assailants.

The victim, identified as the daughter of Mr. Bright Kalu, was reportedly beheaded at the farming community on June 8, 2026.

Kalu, a farmer from Abia State, said the incident occurred while he was away purchasing food items from a nearby camp. According to him, the toddler had been left in the care of her mother at their farm settlement when the attack happened.

Narrating the incident, Kalu said he met his wife in a distressed condition upon returning and was informed that an unknown person had attacked the camp. While she managed to save three of their children, the baby was missing.

He said he immediately joined his elder brother, Ifeanyi Kalu, in searching the area. Their search ended in tragedy when they discovered the child’s lifeless body behind their house with her head severed.

The bereaved father appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies, and human rights organisations to ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are identified and brought to justice.

Kalu disclosed that the matter was initially reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at the Police Headquarters in Akure for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the crime.

He added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
